Experience

Working as Executive Assistant to the Henry County Board of Commissioners for the past five years, I am familiar with the needs and demands of a growing county. I know that fair and efficient collection of taxes is essential to the ongoing services provided by our government. As a public servant in Henry County since 1972, I have the experience Henry County residents expect and deserve.

Leadership

My experience in local government began when I was first elected to the Hampton City Council in 1972. I went on to serve as City Clerk, volunteer Fire Chief and served as Mayor for 23 years. As mayor, I fulfilled the duties of a City Manager and was responsible for planning and monitoring the city's budget with proven leadership skills. Henry County citizens can be certain that my knowledge and experience make me well qualified to serve as tax commissioner.

Commitment

I am committed to Henry County where I was born and reared. I learned early lessons in service and commitment by earning Eagle Scout rank at the age of 14. Shortly after entering college, I joined the Air Force and served stateside during the Vietnam War. I went on to work for the federal government as an air traffic controller in Hampton for 32 years. My wife of 42 years, Gayle, and I are members of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church . We have 4 children and 5 grandchildren. My life demonstrates my commitment to family, community and country.
